Hirslanden Clinique Cécil occupies a former luxury hotel in central Lausanne. The Hôtel Cecil was built between 1905 and 1907 and, after a crisis in the hotel trade, was converted into a hospital in 1931. It was bought by what became the Hirslanden Group in 1990 and is now one of the leading private hospitals in French-speaking Switzerland. The clinic has 86 beds, 7 of them in an SSICM-recognised intensive care unit, 6 operating theatres (including one hybrid), 2 delivery rooms and around 387 affiliated specialists. It specialises in cardiology and cardiovascular surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, surgical gynaecology and obstetrics, urology, neurosurgery and internal medicine, and hosts a network of institutes including a multidisciplinary pain centre, a centre for medically assisted procreation, a dialysis centre, a maternity and obstetrics unit, and an emergency centre open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
